Present Music's 2014 Spring Campaign
“Present Music concerts remind me of the Japanese Art House Project where empty homes are turned into works of art based on what’s inside. Every Present Music concert is a work of art in itself.”
– Julilly Kohler, PM patron
Dear Present Music Fan,
We’re excited to announce that the Herzfeld Foundation will match your gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000 from now until June 30th! We’ve had a great year with unforgettable collaborations, and we still have our season finale Home Place concert on June 21st.
Make Home Place a home run with a tax-deductible gift today! This is your chance to double your impact!
Home Place will explore themes of home, shelter and a sense of one’s cultural and physical place. As a part of this event, we are working with Milwaukee artist Reginald Baylor’s Typeface Project: a major public art project based on community conversations from four of Milwaukee’s most culturally rich neighborhoods: Harambee, Lindsay Heights, Burnham Park and Sherman/Washington Park.
We will give new life to the Typeface Project by using a combination of the questions and narratives to facilitate the creation of four new collaborative works with students, seniors, local composers and artists in those four neighborhoods. Three of the works will be new music and the fourth will be an art project of miniature musical shelters made out of recycled materials. These works will be showcased in their respective communities and then woven together and presented on our Home Place concert alongside some of today’s leading composers including David Lang, Michael Gordon, Julia Wolfe, Bryce Dessner and Caroline Shaw.
Over the years, you’ve kept new music thriving in Milwaukee and we’re so grateful for your support! We hope you will consider making a contribution today, whether it’s your first or twentieth. Please refer to the pledge card and see the many ways your gifts will help finish our 32nd season on top!
Here are some of the ways your contribution can help:
· Imagining, planning and executing seven concerts per season
· Making music history by commissioning new works from today’s up and coming composers
· Securing the best musicians and guest artists from Milwaukee and around the world
· Teaching young people how to become composers through the Creation Project
Please make a gift today and hear new music come alive!
