Milwaukee Art Museum - Grand Reception Hall

We launch our
season in stunning style in the Grand Reception Hall at the Milwaukee
Art Museum. We'll fly and soar and boil and burn with Turn Table
Turn by Russian-born, Ausralian composer Elena Kats-Chernin.
You'll hear the driving Three Quartets by Michael Nyman,
the strange and compelling Le Momo by John Zorn and Blade
by Carol Yarnell. To complete the evening, Kamran Ince's In Memoriam
has been added to the program. Join us for the post-concert party
as we celebrate the adventure of new music in a magnificent space.

THANKSGIVING

A large chorus,
elegant dancers, the mighty organ, American Indian drumming and
singing and Present Music come together for another inspiring Thanksgiving
concert. You'll hear the world premiere of We're All Here
by Daron Hagen, Song of Ezekiel by Michael Torke, Osvaldo
Golijov, and James MacMillan performed by the talented Brookfield
Central High School Choir and Present Music. Organist Karen Beaumont
plays the riveting Fourths, Mostly by Michael Nyman. Danceworks
dancers move to the tender Gymnopodies of Eric Satie. The
Bucks American Indian singing and drumming group again offer their
mesmerizing rhythm and power.

CRASH

Our guest ensemble
for this concert is one of a kind. They tap and strike, glide and
crash, move, groove, click and pop. They are CRASH, composer Mary
Ellen Childs imaginative group that combines theatre, dance and
percussion in exhilarating and extraordinary ways. For a dramatic
contrast, the Present Music musicians will take you on an epic journey
through one of Alfred Schnittke's greatest works, his Piano Quintet.
Kamran Ince brings another World Premiere to Milwaukee audiences
with his work for flute and piano, Drawing.

Present Music
joins Milwaukee's Internation Arts Festival featuring African, African-American
and American music. You'll hear and see master drummer and dancer
Habib Iddrisu. Mr. Iddrisu comes from Ghana, West Africa, and has
dazzled audiences throughout the world with his immense talent.
You'll hear the African inspired music of Steve Reich and African-American
composer, Alvin Singleton. Rap? Gospel? You can depend on surprise
from Present Music.

Art Museum - Grand Reception Hall 700 North Art Museum Drive
Present Music explodes with this concert featuring Downtown New
York "Boom Box Virtuoso" composer Phil Kline and his piece entitled
Shadow Traffic. He'll stretch the boundaries between avant-garde
classical and ambient electronic music by employing over a hundred
boom box tape players to create multi-dimensional sound. Join us
as we parade in and around Madison's First Unitarian Meeting House
on April 25th and at the Milwaukee Art Museum on April 26th

Music will also perform the world premiere of Kamran Ince's Drawing,
the return of Jerome Kitzke's Haunted America, Michael Daugherty's
Sinatra Shag, Annie Gosfield's Manufacture of Tangled Ivory,
and Michael Torke's Telephone Book. Join Present Music at
these concerts for the release of its new compact disc: HAUNTED
AMERICA, featuring Present Music premiers of commissioned works
by Jerome Kitzke, Michael Torke and Kimmo Hakola. CD's will be available!

CHINA PROJECT
- CONCERT FINALE
Madison:
May 30, 2003 - 7:30 p.m. 1st Unitarian Meeting House
Milwaukee: May 31, 2003 - 7:30 p.m.
Bader Hall at the Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts UWM - 2419
East Kenwood Boulevard
Present Music will be performing in Shanghai and Beijing in May
of 2003, and after returning, will culminate the season with performances
in Madison and Milwaukee. You'll hear them perform the world premiere
of Xiaogang Ye's new work written specifically for the Present Music
ensemble's tour to China.
The highly acclaimed Music From China ensemble, based in New York,
will also join Present Music in performances of Chinese Music performed
on traditional instruments. The finale of the concert will be a
collaboration with the Music From China and Present Music ensembles
performing Ineffable, by Zhou Long.
Please note: The May 29th concert at Wisconsin Lutheran College
with the Shanghai Chinese Ensemble has been cancelled. However,
a lecture/demonstration event with the Music From China ensemble
will take place on Thursday evening, May 29th at a location to be
announced. Please call the Present Music office for more information
or to exchange your tickets for the lecture/demonstration or for
the Concerts on May 30 or 31st.
